Northern Chile
|
Chile has ski resorts that suite everyone's tastes for skiing and snowboarding, and budgets. The ski resorts in Northern Chile are at a much higher elevation then the ski resorts in Southern Chile which generally means higher amounts of snowfall and colder and lighter snow. However this is generally, and often the Southern ski resorts can get more snow like in 2010 and 2011 so it depends on the snow year.
Most ski resorts are located in Northern Chile with the main ones being close to the capital city of Santiago. Portillo is world famous and has many years of history and is a great option for no crowds (max 450 hotel guests) and a great run hotel and ski resort. Valle Nevado, together with El Colorado and La Parva make up the area called 3 Valleys and together form the most skiable acres of one area in South America and you can buy connecting passes so can ski different resorts connecting from one. Valle Nevado has the best hotel options, La Parva the best apartments options, and the best lodges and small mountain town atmosphere is in Los Farellones where there are a variety of lodges we work with that allow you access to El Colorado and La Parva and connecting to Valle Nevado. You can also heli ski and snowboard out of Valle Nevado and La Parva or in the Portillo area. Northern Chile also has the only regular cat skiing operation in South America Ski Arpa Cat Skiing located 45 minutes from the town of Los Andes. |
