San Martin de los Andes Excursions

  

Huechulafquen Lake, Lanin Volcano

  

  

Departure: 09:00 hs.

One of the most characteristic visit in the Lanín National Park. It reaches the very base of the Volcano. Bordering the Chimehuin River, one of the most famous trout fly-fishing spots in the world, the largest lake in the park –the Huechulafquen- is reached and its entire length, with its blue waters and its impressive waves, is visited.

Before that we visit Junín de los Andes, its centre, the church and the Mapuche cultural centre, where they offer traditional handicraft. This is our first contact with tha mapuche culture.

At midday, we stop in a mapuche community to have lunch. After that the excursion will reach Puerto Canoa, a beautiful spot located on the shores of the lake. There is also the opportunity of going on a lake excursion across Lake Epulafquen in order to observe the marvelous lava at the Escorial of 6 km lenght. After lunch, the excursion will reach Lake Paimun, with its green waters suitable for swimming, as they are not so cold.

In different places of our trip we can see an impressive view of the Lanín Volcano, almost 3,800 m of height, and its snow-capped summit.

Hua Hum Balconies over the Lacar Lake Road Trip

  

  

Duration: 5 ½ hs.

Departures: 10:30hs or 14:00 hs.

 

  

This excursion will allow visitors to see almost all the vegetable species of the Lanín National Park, as they will slowly enter the Valdivian forest, one of the most humid spots in the country.

Provincial Route 48 will be travelled passing by Trompul, a high spot from where there is a beautiful sight of Lake Lácar, Chapelco and Mount Abanico.

Yuco beach, with its volcanic sandy beaches and its myrtle tree forest, will also be visited. Once in Hua Hum, a spot in the west end of the lake, we go hiking until the spectacular Chachin waterfall.

Hua Hum Boat Trip

  

  

Duration: 7 ½ hs.

Leaving from the San Martín de los Andes harbor, visitors will enjoy the marvels offered by Lakes Lácar and Nonthue. Thus, the environment of the basalt rocky formations spread in the shape of a fan will be seen as the craft passes by Mount Abanico.

Sailing on, the area of the Quila Quina Curruhuinca Indian reserve is seen and the voyage continues towards the narrowness. This is a curious place where Lake Lácar pours its waters into Lake Nonthue, offering a remarkable colorful contrast for visitors to watch from the craft.

Lake Nonthue empties into the Pacific Ocean through the Hua Hum River.

After sailing across Lake Nonthue, visitorss will go hiking until the spectacular Chachin waterfall.

And then return to Lake Lácar through the narrowness and stop at the Santa Teresita Island, to go for a walk up to the small local chapel. Next, the craft will return to San Martín de los Andes.

Villa Pehuenia

This town lies on the coast of Aluminé Lake and holded by a monkey puzzle forest or Araucaria (pehuén in the mapuche tongue). It is located at 250km from our city, and during our way we also visit Aluminé, travelling along the river with the same name almost 100km of our trip.

We enter the road that lead us to the “Circuito Pehuenia”, a way with a lush forest that join the lakes: Pulmarí, Ñorquinco, Moquehue and Aluminé. With our van we get to the top of the crater of Batea Mahuida Volcano, almost 2000 m. over sea level, to enjoy the wonderful and amazing scenery from there and also go hiking until the lagoon that is on the top. When we go down we arrive to the Angostura, a short river that join Aluminé and Moquehue lakes.

Once in Villa Pehuenia we visit the bays, harbors, peninsulas, finding unique landscapes. This small town was founded at the beginning of ’90 and visitors get astonished by the way the houses are built, in a total harmonious balance with the wild forest scenery , especially by the pure forest of Araucarias.

Filo Hua Hum and Melaquina Lakes

19:30 hs.

  

In this excursion we visit a part of the Córdoba Pass road, Meliquina Lake and its village, the newest patagonic town, with some houses built by the same architecture of San Martín de los Andes. It is a relaxing place to live. Then we continue our trip along some sawmills until we arrive to Casa de Piedra, a huge cave where some Mapuche communities lived in the past. In front of the cave scenery let us take some pictures of the Caleufu river and its rapids with an intense emerald colour.

Then we visit the Filo Hua Hum lake, a small but wonderful and quiet lake, with splendid beaches, an ideal place to get sunbathe and swim. In the spare time visitors can taste the homemade jams, bread and cakes that offers the bar of the camping site.

Finally we return by the same road until San Martín de los Andes is reached.

Bariloche by the Seven Lakes Road

  

Departure: 08:00 hs.

Return: 20:00 hs.

  

Leaving in the early morning along National Route 234, travelling 115 km across lush forests, crystal-clear rivers and passing by Lakes Machonico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo and Nahuel Huapi.

At midday, the excursion gets to Villa la Angostura. This beautiful tourist village, its harbors, the El Messidor Residence and its gardens will be visited. Afterwards, the trip to San Carlos de Bariloche is resumed, bordering the great Lake Nahuel Huapi. Once in that city, the Civic Center and the harbor will be visited and excursionists will have some time to spare around the city.

In the afternoon, the shuttle will return along until the Limay river, visiting the Anfiteatro, the Enchanted valley, with its curious shapes on the rocks, Confluencia Traful, Rinconada,    until San Martín de los Andes is reached.

Villa La Angostura by the Seven Lakes Road

We leave early in the morning by the 234 National Road travelling 115 km. of lush forest, rivers of clear water and the lakes: Machónico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo and Nahuel Huapi.

At midday we arrive at Villa la Angostura and we visit this beatifull touristic village, its bays, Messidor Residence and its wonderful gardens. Then we have free time to have lunch in the centre area. In the afternoon we visit Puerto Manzano and its majestic architecture. Finally we start returning by the same way, the Seven Lakes Road, to arrive to our city.

Villa La Angostura - Villa Traful by the Seven Lakes Road

Leaving in the early morning along National Route 234, travelling 115 km across exuberant forests, crystal-clear rivers and passing by Lakes Machonico, Falkner, Villarino, Escondido, Correntoso, Espejo and Nahuel Huapi.

At midday, the excursion gets to Villa la Angostura. This beautiful tourist village, its harbors, the El  Messidor Residence and its gardens will be visited. After having lunch, the shuttle will return along the same 7-Lake Road, passing once again by Lakes Espejo and Correntoso, and it will take the junction leading to Villa Traful. The road presents an attractive ascent through the thick forest in search for the Portezuelo Pass. As excursionists descend, they will make contact with the southern coast of Lake Traful, which they will see completely. Next to the lake, through a coihue forest, we arrived in this small mountain village where a little more than 300 people live.

Staying at Villa Traful will enable visitors to go around the entire village. As they leave this place behind, they will approach the heights of the Viento Vantage Point, an impressive cliff raising 70 m over the surface of the lake.  The excursion will return along the same Seven Lakes Road.
