Portillo

There is no town in Portillo and it is a self-contained ski resort with one main hotel (Grand Hotel Portillo), one apartment type lodge (Octagon Lodge), and one hostel type lodge (Inca Lodge). All 3 accommodation options are ski-in ski-out at Portillo. Octagon and Inca are shared accommodation options; The Grand Hotel is by far the highest end option for your stay in Portillo.

Portillo is one of the top ski resorts in South America and is often voted in the top ten by various magazines.

Portillo is not as crowded with no lift lines and only 450 guests a week. Portillo is world renowned for some of the most beautiful scenery in the Andes and having international race teams training there as well.

Portillo is a 4 hour drive from Mendoza, Argentina and a 8 hour drive from the Santiago, Chile Airport (SCL). A regular shuttle bus transfer or private transfer from Santiago airport to Portillo is easily organized and available. A normal bus leaves Santiago twice a day enroute to Mendoza but unfortunately leaves you a five minute walk from the resort of Portillo. Turbus goes from the Mendoza bus station direct to Portillo daily.

We recommend a trip to Portillo for any skier, snowboarder or family that enjoys skiing and snowboarding and is looking for a relaxing holiday without any hassles and having everything at their fingertips.

We highly recommend Portillo as the best resort for families with younger children.

Road-Closed Policy (for more information please read our Policies)

The road to Portillo is also the International Highway that links Santiago, Chile, with Mendoza, Argentina. The highway is maintained by the Chilean Ministry of Public Works, who is responsible for cleaning following snowstorms or other events. Portillo Ski Resort is not responsible for the condition of the road.

IMPORTANT: Guests who are unable to drive up to Portillo while the road is closed will be directly responsible for their accommodation and other expenses in Santiago or elsewhere. The nights that are not used at Portillo will be accredited to their accounts. Guests will be able to choose whether to transfer the credit to their extra services account (ski lessons, bar bills, etc.), use the credit toward a future reservation within the same season, or proceed for reimbursement through Southamericaski.com.

IMPORTANT: Guests who are unable to descend from Portillo and must spend the night in the resort will be charged the full rate for their first night’s accommodation. However, beginning the second night, a 50% discount is applied to the normal rate.
